The main disadvantages of butyl rubber include:
First, the vulcanization speed is slow. Compared with highly unsaturated rubbers such as natural rubber, the vulcanization speed is about 3 times slower, requiring high temperature or long-term vulcanization;
Second, the mutual adhesion is poor, and the adhesion with other rubbers must be improved with the help of tackifiers and tackifier layers, and the adhesion is low;
Third, it has poor compatibility with other rubbers, and generally can only be used together with ethylene propylene rubber and polyethylene;
Fourth, it has a weak interaction with reinforcing agents. Compared with unsaturated rubber, butyl rubber has a weaker interaction with reinforcing agents. Heat treatment or the use of additives are required to increase the reinforcing effect of the rubber and increase the tensile strength.
